I've been working on a couple of new patterns! I'm very excited to get them out in the public! Some for purchase and some free. There are some that will have drawn stitch diagrams. I'll also be illustrating helpful diagrams and posting photo tutorials soon!

I'm doing a redesign of the strawberry pattern with some changes to reflect how my professional patterns will look and read. That should be available for free in pdf soon!

Things you need to know:

+Using single and double crochet stitches

+Increasing and decreasing

+Hand stitching (satin stitch for the eyes and nose) and weaving in ends

+Crocheting in the round with a magic ring

+Switching colors (optional)

Finished Size: About 4” x 4” at the widest point

Supplies:

+Worsted/Medium weight acrylic or cotton yarn (1 ball of each) in tan, black, pink (black and pink yarn is used minimally, you can also just use embroidery thread), or any other colors you want your hamster to be.

+Tapestry needle

+Yarn needle threader

+Stitch markers for counting

+Scissors

+Size H (5mm) crochet hook

Gauge: not important unless you need it to be a specific size or use different yarn. 2” square = 7 sc across and 8 sc rows down

It's 2011! This is my first post of the year. I have a lot planned for this year and so many changes are already happening! I'm working on new projects and hope to have something to share soon!

I'd like to post a picture of the super cute necklace my husband got me for x-mas! <3

Also, one of the last crochet things I made of 2010 was a cute little Korilakkuma pouch for my friend!

I compiled some art to represent each month in 2010, to recap some of the things I've made. I mostly wanted to focus on drawing but I didn't always have a drawing to show. I really hope to draw as much as possible again this year.

Mori Girl means Forest Girl. It's a fashion from Japan that is pretty easy to find pieces here in the US to mix and match. It's not so strange as everyday wear to people who are unfamiliar with it. I love Lolita fashion but lately it's seemed a bit flashy for me to wear other than to meetups.

Mori Girl is supposed to look like a girl who stepped out of the forest. It's very frilly, girly, comfortable, not too over the top, and every bit is whimsical. There are lots of layers and nature inspired items.

We had a really fun Mori Girl meet! Our first official Oregon Mori Girls meetup. Portland is the perfect setting for pictures. It was a lot of fun and I can't wait until the next one.

I started with this doodle, then I realized that I really should keep trying this technique of copying from that book. I did another little doodle of a zombie girl and that turned into this....

Crochet pirate eyepatches for Blythe dolly girls!

I posted these on both my Etsy and Artfire stores. I have a bunch of new dress designs and other crochet Blythe items on the way. This is exciting. Moving to Portland and meeting so many talented ladies has really re-sparked my interest in making things for Blythe. I originally started to in 2007 and then stopped because of all the other things I was doing. This was before I knew crochet too. I feel like I'm getting back to making the things that I'm good at and make me happy. Now I'm combining crochet and Blythe, two things I think I'm really enjoying and good at. ^_^

Trying to doodle on the tablet. I used Corel Painter, I like it tons better than Photoshop for drawing. I'm still learning and it's going to take some work. I am pretty pleased with my doodles though for never drawing much anymore or even doing anything digitally. ^_^

Just in time for Earth Day, I'm making my cloth pads again! They are amazing reusable cloth panty liners that are more comfortable, breathable, and eco friendly. Today I posted my Hello Kitty liners, but coming soon I will have a lot more fun pattern pads. If you use disposable products and can't wrap your head around cloth, panty liners are a good thing to try. Of all the disposable womens' products, they are pretty unnecessary when you can give cloth a try.

Busy Busy!

Lately I've been busy with the move coming up at the end of May! We're moving to Portland and we've got to get rid of almost everything. I want to run down my craft supplies by using them up but I've also had to clean and organize all the stuff around as we get rid of furniture.
Yesterday I started to work on fixing one of the skirts I made last year in a rush. I am replacing the waistband.

I'm going to be using the same pattern to make a few new skirts. One of the skirts is going to be of this really cute black and white clock print fabric. I plan on wearing this to the last EGL meetup I'm attending in Ohio!

With all the things going on I hope that I can find a bit more time to update my blog.

Pullip!

This Pullip doll was announced last year and Scott and I wanted her for our 1yr Anniversary. She is now officially going to be released for this summer! Scott placed the order for her today and we're really excited to get her in the mail!!!
The other Pullip we have is Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. She was also an anniversary gift for us both(dating anniversary). After the move this year we'll be taking lots of pictures of our dolls. Though, this will be our 2nd and last Pullip. They are super cute but these are special and anymore wouldn't make them so special.
I have 3 Blythe dolls and one Petite Blythe. If we have other dolls it will be a MSD Ball Jointed Doll but that's farther in the future ^_^

I have my patterns and now I need to adjust them. I have the pieces that I'm pinning on to the dressform and I need to make some changes.

The thing is...

...Since we're moving in May, my work area became super messy as we got rid of furniture. I should be able to continue with my posts and patternmaking come Monday. We've been busy, but part of moving is trying to use up as much material as I can so I need to get to sewing.

Adventures in Pattern Drafting and Other Things

Yesterday I finished the back of the bodice. I was excited and started to cut my patterns out to test them. I realized that I drew the side a bit longer than it should have been. Because of that, the armhole is smaller than it should be as well!

I went ahead and cut the front out of fabric and I will need to remeasure and trim the back. I'm fine with messing up because I figured out what went wrong and how to fix it.

This morning we went for a walk and since we've spent all winter inside, I ended up straining my left foot. I haven't been able to work on my patterns because of this but instead I finished my crochet pouch I was working on.
It's a little tan hamster! I've been wanting to do different color hamster pouches, so here's the first one.

I also ended up making a logo for Scott in Illustrator for the new Amazon.com seller account. Our new seller name is Electric Lime Gaming.

Overall I guess today was productive even with a sore foot and more lounging than working! I am learning to love my blog! I haven't really ever been into blogging like I am now. You know what that means? New layout coming soon! My blog will finally look like a real, professional blog!

Adventures in Pattern Drafting - Front Bodice

After reading the initial first chapters and looking over measurements, I've drafted my front bodice. I'm using the Helen Joseph Armstrong's Patternmaking for Fashion Design 5th edition. It's an amazing book! Tomorrow I'm making the back, skirt, and sleeve drafts. Then I'll see about adjustments and trying them on some test fabric. It's all pretty exciting. After the basic pattern sets are drafted, I'm going to start draping as well. I hope to post more often on my blog. I think it could be fun to see my progress at patternmaking.

This is a drawing of my ideal Totoro corner! Totoro is a Miyazaki character that is super fun and cute. This image of him is actually a bean bag chair I plan to make for the Totoro corner. The leaf canopy is from the children's section at Ikea. The mushroom stool is a cute Japanese chair I want to order from strapya. I'm going to make a cute log pillow and little dust sprites also from the Miyazaki stories. Overall, I want to create a comfortable woodland fantasy inspired section in the new apartment.

Totoro!

Now I have Totoro slippers too! These are for me ^_^ I LOVE them and they're super comfy! The pattern that I followed for these didn't seem to make sense and I know a lot of other people had problems with it too. It was from the fuzzy bunny slippers in the Stitch'n Bitch book. I made the Sgt. Frog slippers without a pattern but I looked at as many slipper patterns as I could to understand how to do it well and to fit the right size. All in all I'm pretty darn happy with how my character slippers turned out.

I finally finished them. I had to take them apart like 3 times, but I got it right. They fit him perfectly. No pattern used. At first I wasn't super happy with his face but now I think it looks better. Scott reallllly likes them. Now it's onto finishing my Totoro Slippers!!!!!

I've decided to start participating in Illustration Friday! Every Friday they will post a topic and I will try to illustrate something for it. I'm going to start out small with my illustrations at first. I'm also going to try to post sketches and then eventually more finished sketches for wearable designs (fashion illustrations). So I will have two topics each Friday. One "official" topic from IF and one that I randomly select to have a theme for sketching. I'm pretty excited about it and I'm going to try to regularly post.

Lately I've also been trying to finish up personal crochet projects and will be posting pictures soon of those!

Design Sketches

So it's a month into the new year and things are picking back up for me. It's been awhile, but I'm sketching again and doing things right! I'm going to be posting and showcasing designs that I sketch and then turn into the real thing. I've found inspiration from this book. I went to school for Graphic Design, but I want my ideas to be more of a real thing that applies to everyday life, not just print or online media. I love crafting things and almost became a costume design major...not regrets because I still can make the things I want but I need practice.

Wow I haven't drawn in a long time...since I graduated in 2007. I'm not really counting my doodles and designs though. This was sketched using Painter and my Wacom tablet. I really want to start getting used to drawing with it. Scott bought it for me forever ago and I've only used it for a couple of projects. I've been so afraid to doodle with it. I need to get over my freak fear of digital drawing, it's kinda stupid since it's soooo forgiving!!! ^.^;

It's been awhile, things got busy and then I got the flu!! But I wanted to post my newest creations from Halloween. I'm currently working on a sweater for myself too!! It will be my first crochet clothing piece.

For Halloween I was a Neo-Victorian vampire slayer from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe.
I made myself a fashion corset and a crochet eyepatch. My dad made my Buffy weapon.

Scott was Rasputin and I made him a fuzzy crochet beard!

Swaps and update

I haven't updated in awhile but I've been on vacation and now I'm cleaning the apartment. My craft room is getting reorganized and totally moved around. I will have to post pictures once it's finished. I have been also participating in some swaps on Craftster.org!

The one I just finished was a Kawaii/Sanrio swap. Here's what I made:

For Otakon this year I wanted to make something and I love Evangelion so I decided to make a comfy Pen2 (the cute penguin from the show) Kigurumi. I wanted to make a good warm weather one so I made it with short sleeves and shorts but still baggy and with a cute hood to keep to the Kigurumi style.

It was sewn with a serger and made with a cotton/poly knit (t-shirt material) and professional resin snaps. It's super comfy and I plan on making myself a Totoro and my hubby a Teddy from Persona. I've also got a gloomy bear in the works but that's using cotton flannel.
After those are made, I want to start selling them. I think they're super fun.

WoolFest 2009 at Lake Metro Farmpark

Yesterday Scott and I went to Woolfest, which I found out about through the knit/crochet group I went to. We were going to check out the farmpark anyway but decided to go for the fiber festival too. It was fun and different! We got to pet all the animals and it was really neat seeing the ladies spin the fiber into yarn. It makes me want to take a spinning class. They also sell giant bags of wool for about $1/lb which is super great if you clean and dye it yourself for felting/spinning.

There were colored sheep there for a fiber contest where you have so little time to make a garment fresh from the sheep's wool, so they skip a step by dying the wool while on the sheep!

These were the cutest little alpacas, all wearing bandannas around their neck ^_^

Patterns and Downtime

This past Monday I went to a local knit and crochet group and it was a lot of fun! Lately I've been taking it kinda slow with getting things together with Etsy. I do plan on posting patterns next week! I'm excited, I'm going to design them all pretty like pages out of a magazine too ^_^

Things have been good and busy! I have some new things to share soon though. I am almost done making my pikachu pouch! I'm slightly obsessed with pokemon again (since the original game boy version).

I have a new banner! I think it's super cute. I also made a little logo for my etsy store, PlasticCupcake. The cherry is the "P" and "C" for the name.

Strawberry crochet menstrual pouch Pattern

Supplies:
+1 ball red yarn
+1 ball green yarn
(I used Lily's Sugar n Cream 100% cotton yarn)
+tapestry needle
+yarn needle threader
+stitch markers for counting
+size H (5mm) crochet hook

Stitches/abbreviations:
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
fo = fasten off
* = repeat until end of round; you reach the number inside ( )

rnd= round

approx. measurements: Flat, 3 1/2" long and 3 1/2" wide at the top. For size with cups, I use a small diva cup, which I think is the longest of the cups and is 43mm around the top (in between most size cups for small and large).

The pattern is worked in spirals until switched to green, then you slip stitch to form rounds.

I like to start with a magic circle/ring

sc 6 stitches inside the ring.
Rnd 1: sc in each st (12)
Rnd 2-3: sc around (12)
Rnd 4: *sc 1, sc 2 in next st* (18)
Rnd 5-6: sc around (18)
Rnd 7: *sc 2, sc 2 in next st* (24)
Rnd 8: sc around (24)

Rnd 9: *sc 3, sc 2 in next st* (30)

Rnd 10-12: sc around (30)
[switch to green yarn]
Rnd 13: sc around, sl st (30)
Rnd 14: ch 3, dc in same stitch, dc around, sl st (30)
Rnd 15-16: ch 1, sc around, sl st and fo at end of rnd 16 (30)
(weave in all ends with your tapestry needle)

Ties
[in green yarn]
(Make two) ch 55, fo
you can leave them plain and weave and tie the ends or make a little leaf end by using a slip stitch at the end of the chain in 3 to 5 stitches from the hook....sl st in last 3 ch stitches, ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining 2.
Weave the chain into the double crochet(one starting on each side of your bag) and that makes your drawstrings.
(tie off or stitch together the ends of the chain on each side of your bag).

Crochet Burger!!

I have been really enjoying using facial scrubbies and decided that they should be crazy and fun. My new addition to my etsy has been the stacked burger scrubbies!

I think they're super cute and I have some more ideas for different kinds. I hope people like them. I want to post a pattern for a scrubbie I make very soon too!

Wash your face with...breakfast?!

I have really gotten into the idea of using crochet scrubbies instead of one use cotton pads. They're great for taking off makeup, putting on toner, and washing your face in general. I decided I wanted to try making themed ones. I posted this one on etsy too.

Frilly Crochet

I made this on a whim without a pattern for a masked ball. I wanted something delicate to go with my frilly pink dress. I think it turned out well and I can totally tweak it to make a better one, and perhaps write a pattern down. I love crocheting with thread; this in particular was super soft bamboo crochet thread! I plan on making some crochet earrings soon too!!

Crafty blog!

I think it's about time I keep a public blog for my crafts and everyday cute things. I have had many blogs but I really want this one to work. So here's my first intro post.

I made this a bit ago but I think it's neat. I crocheted it from a Japanese pattern I got online. It's called a tawashi, or a cute dish scrubbie! It has two sides that are stitched together. They are really fun and do clean the dishes well! This one is 100% cotton but I think acrylic would actually dry a bit quicker after use.
